Consultant – Assistant Structural Design Engineer, Design Unit - HQ Gaza (Local)
BACKGROUND
The consultant will be responsible for supporting Structural Design Engineer, Design Unit, HQ Gaza to form design duties (calculation, modeling, drafting, quantities take-off and BOQ/specification development) at Design Unit - UNRWA HQ (Gaza) according to UNRWA’s policy and procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Has a wide knowledge and experience in design resources, which specified for drawing and calculations.
Assist in preparing tender documents (Structural works part) through systematic procedure compatible with other works.
Assist in preparing technical specifications for materials specified during design works.
Commits to hand-over time of design works according to drawn plan by direct supervisor.
Archives all done works versus time.
Prepares itemized BOQ and cost estimate for works designed by staff.
Performs market research for materials to be used during design and still updated with international markets.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Civil/Structural Engineering.
A minimum of two years’ experience in Structural design (building concrete works).
Strong ability in use of computers in design and Drafting development (mainly SAFE, ETAB, Prokon, AutoCAD software).
Relevant background in structural works design and drafting for building project (i.e. schools, health centers, housing project).
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
Ability to use Outlook, Excel and Word application.
Strong reporting skills.
COMPETENCES
Good communications skills;
Ability to work under pressure;
Team spirit and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
Good command of spoken and written English.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
The duration of the consultancy is 6-11 months with the expected start date of January 2020.
Remuneration for this consultancy will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
The incumbent will be based in Gaza.
