UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. The Agency is committed to assisting Palestine refugees in maintaining a decent standard of living, acquiring appropriate knowledge and skills, enjoying the fullest possible extent of human rights, and leading a long and healthy life. UNRWA is by far the largest UN operation in the Middle East with over 29,000 staff. Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
 Analyses and reports statistical data of socio-economic nature, as gathered from national research institutes as well as relevant data on UNRWA regular and emergency programmes in the relevant Filed through standard statistical software (e.g. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences-SPSS);
 Assists in the production and design of tabulations and questionnaires, determines sampling method for questionnaires and produces necessary charts and graphs for internal reports and studies as required in relations with HQ, donors and other UN Agencies;
 Statistically analyses data gathered through questionnaires, focus groups and other Programme related data using tools like: data cleaning, standardization/categorizing of collected data, statistical graphics and indices, and SPSSS;
 Conducts structured and semi-structured interviews and facilitates Focus Group Discussions during field studies;
 Co-ordinates with representatives of research institutes for completion of studies and maintains regular contacts with national institutes of statistics and other UN Agencies;
 Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
 A university degree in statistics, economics, applied mathematics or a related social or management science discipline with a significant statistical, quantitative analysis and research methods component.
 At least four years experience in the application of statistical knowledge in an operational, academic or government research context.
 Excellent command of spoken and written English.
 Proven statistical skills and ability to process statistical data using SPSS or other statistical packages;
 Excellent computer knowledge and skills in the use of SPSS and/or other statistical, spreadsheet or graphics software;
 Familiarity with academic institutions, UN Agencies/International Organizations and Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS);
 Ability to work under pressure and within a team.
 It’s desirable to have In-depth knowledge of UNRWA’s operations and programmes in the oPt.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
 Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $1,391.40; and monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25.
 Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
 Employment for this post might be either on full-time or part-time basis based on the needs.
Announcing this modality does not mean that it would definitely be used. It would rather give the
Agency the flexibility to use both full time and part time contracts based on the work needs and the
personal circumstances or preferences of the staff member.
 Leave: 30 days annual leave
 Pension: Provident Fund contribution
 Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.

EQUIVALENCY
When the minimum requirements are not fully met, the Director of Human Resources; in consultation with the Director of UNRWA Operations, Gaza may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.
NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
