Project Context & Objectives
Our client intends to recruit two Emergency Health and Nutrition Assistants to support critical primary healthcare services in Gaza, specifically in the Middle Area and Khan Younis. These roles will contribute to the delivery of essential health services, capacity building, and emergency response monitoring, including maternal and child health (BEmONC, immunization), SAM/MAM management, IYCF, micronutrient programs, and coordination of the broader emergency health and nutrition response.
Role Objectives
Monitoring and Field Visits
Conduct regular visits to health facilities and medical/nutrition points or centers (including OPDs, antenatal/postnatal services, skilled birth delivery, immunization, and nutrition programs).
Evaluate service quality, focusing on treatment outcomes and adherence to standards.
Each assistant is expected to visit 15 facilities per month (hospitals, health centers, or medical/nutrition points in shelters) using tools such as EUM/ODK.
Assignments may also include additional fieldwork as directed by the client’s field office.
Situation Monitoring
Monitor the emergency health and nutrition situation through various methods and report findings to the client in Gaza.
Conduct site visits to IDP locations with NGO counterparts to assess needs and inform planning for outreach activities (e.g., immunization campaigns, mobile clinics, additional facilities).
On-the-Job Training
Mentor and train health and nutrition staff in nutritional screening, IYCF counseling, and SAM/MAM treatment protocol adherence.
Emphasize early detection of malnutrition in IDP women and children via regular screenings.
Data Monitoring & Quality Assurance
Support data collection, reporting, and quality assurance for indicators such as:
OPD service numbers
Women reached through antenatal/postnatal services
Delivery or referral support
Child immunization by antigen and sex
SAM and MAM screening/admissions/performance
Ensure each shelter is mapped and nutrition screening is consistently reported.
Ensure maternal health and immunization services are functioning at all mapped shelters/points, with proper referral pathways in place.
SAM and MAM Management
Verify that case management aligns with standards and maintain regular communication with NGO partners.
Track operational health facilities and their capacity to provide SAM and MAM services.
Assess training needs and support expansion through fixed sites or MHNTs (Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams).
Community Engagement & Mobilization
Collaborate with community structures and beneficiaries to foster positive health and nutrition behaviors.
Health and Nutrition Supplies
Monitor supply needs and alert client Health/Nutrition Officers of urgent gaps.
Ensure proper systems for supply management (request, distribution, storage, utilization).
Train personnel in stock management and ensure bin cards are maintained for key items (essential medicines, kits, RUTF, etc.).
Coordination
Support Nutrition Sub-Cluster coordination at the local level.
Record and share meeting minutes with the Nutrition Cluster Coordinator via the client’s Health/Nutrition Officer.
Foster close collaboration with UN and NGO partners to ensure shared understanding of the situation and response.
Keep the client’s Field Office Health Manager updated on priorities for the Health Cluster and raise relevant concerns at the forum level.
Community Engagement & Coaching
Work closely with formal and informal organizational committees at shelters (UNRWA, Red Crescent, etc.).
Avoid duplication by coordinating with health authorities and mapping services.
Building trust with communities and staff is vital to delivering effective services.
Expected Outputs
Monthly Travel Plans prepared by the end of each month for the following period in consultation with the client’s Health and Nutrition Officers.
Monitor a minimum of 15 facilities/month, reported through ODK/EUM/Kobo.
Submit a Monthly Activity and Progress Report (1-page) summarizing achievements.
Consistent use of Kobo/ODK/EUM tools for facility/point reporting.
Submit one Human Interest Story per month.
Complete mandatory online trainings:
Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP)
Experience & Competencies
Requirement Essential Desirable
Academic Qualification University degree in medicine, clinical nursing, public health, or nutrition (or advanced diploma in clinical nursing) —
Other Qualifications — Experience in training for the management of severe acute malnutrition and IYCF promotion
